Lets take it back a few

During lunch with my family on Saturday, I was telling them about my Nature Project and how I am observing my Magic Tree and they all knew it was a peach tree but enjoyed the fact that I called it a magic tree.My uncle then recommended that I look up the poem "The Old Peach Tree" By Grace Riffle. He told me to read the whole poem  to see if it related to my magic tree in any way.

The Old Peach Tree

Under the old peach tree
Hearing the buzz of bees
Looking up at pink blossoms so sweet
Watching pink petals fall at my feet
Under the old peach tree almost fallen down
I can hear every sound as the sun goes down
I hear somewhere the song of a mocking bird
The sweetest song I ever heard
As I lean against the old peach tree
I think of things that used to be
This old tree brings me back to my childhood
And the many peaches I ate that were so good
Old peach tree I wish you could talk
Whisper to me some of your thoughts
But instead you fill my heart with your beauty
As I smell the perfume of your blossoms so fruity
I wonder how much longer you'll be here.
How much longer my heart you'll cheer
I hope to lean against you many a spring
And feel the peace that you bring.

-Grace Riffle

I related to this poem in so many ways, this poem by Grace Riffle reminded me of my Peach Tree during the summer time. When I had no idea that it was a peach tree, I actually thought I had a Japanese cherry blossom in front of my yard. Could you blame me though? They looked exactly alike, that or maybe I wasn't paying as close of an attention as I am now. The beauty of this poem just makes me love my tree even more, it was so much more exciting to watch my tree during the summer though. Since the weather was beautiful and the birds would be out along with the bees and different type of insects that would come around. Then the peaches that would grow and noticing each one pop up a little more each day was just amazing to watch as I walked out my front door every morning.

It is definitely a different season, a lot of waiting and observing, maybe even a little too much for me to handle. My magic tree is going through a real slow process, I know I've said this more then once but it has. I was really hoping to wake up the next day to a completely different tree, wishing it just transformed overnight revealing the true magic within the tree-- sadly it did not happen. The poem by Grace Riffle described the peach tree during the summer time more then it is during the fall. So, I've decided to attempt my own version of The Old Peach Tree by Grace Riffle

Watching the peach tree,
from sunrise to sunset--
the wind that hugs my body,
as I take my first step out the door;
who knew a breeze can be so welcoming,
my only companion--
the magic tree,
I lay here reminiscing,
on the cold green grass--
the great transformation;
pink petals,
bold green leaves,
to wrinkled ombre green,
the yellow dead leaves--
surrounds my tree,
like body guards around the king,
how much longer,
till I see a change--
a beginning to something new;
O magic tree--
tell me your thoughts,
how much longer,
till the fiery leave;
Only time can tell,
Ill let mother nature do her work.
I guess it's true--
beauty takes time.

Its really not the best, just an attempt. I do plan on improving that poem in the upcoming blogs. Hopefully there will be a big change by that time.

  1. I love so much about this blog: the voice, the poetry (both), the honest exploration. Thanks for a great blog. Your impatience with time reminds me of my oldest daughter when she turned five. On the morning of her birthday, she came into my room crying because she just knew she would be different that day. Nature moves slowly.

  2. I really enjoyed reading your blog. Like Ms. Farias already said I like the voice you use. It makes me feel as if you're telling me about your magic tree in person. Another thing I really liked about your blog is that you posted a poem and then made attempt to create something similar. Be patient in seeing the changes in your tree. I'm observing my apple tree and sometimes I see the same things too. Great Job!

  3. The fact that you wrote your own poem makes me love your blog even more! Your attempt is really lovely and I can't wait to see your final draft! Maybe you could put your poem in your Chapbook. Also, be patient with your tree! Great things take time.

  4. I love how you tried to relate your observation on a poem that connects to the topic.I also really liked how in your poem you wrote "the wind that hugs my body, as I take my first step out the door." I really thought that this was an amazing piece of literature. As I read that one line, it made me visualize the setting in which you were in and the fact that you stated your experience with your surroundings is amazing. It shows that not only were you noticing what was going on with your peach tree, but that you were also aware of the environment you were in.
